Organizing Internship

All Organizing Internship positions for summer 2009 have been filled.  The deadline to apply for a fall 2009 internship is July 24.  Inquiries are welcome after the deadline.

 

The ACLU of Northern California seeks motivated applicants for the Organizing Internship. The fall 2009 internship will begin in August or September 2009 and continue until early to mid December 2009.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

Organizing Interns will support all levels of Organizing Department work and work closely with the two Field Organizers and the Organizing Coordinator. Some of the tasks interns will be asked to complete in fall 2009 include:  

Issue Organizing:
· Help plan town hall meetings;
· Help coordinate public education events; and
· Work with staff and volunteers of coalition partner organizations to implement organizing tactics around various ACLU issues, including but not limited to marriage equality, reproductive rights, Schools for All, and technology and civil liberties.

Activist Engagement:
· Recruit activists for/promote monthly activist activities through social media;
· Manage and confirm activist RSVPs to events;
· Provide general logistical support for events; and
· Coordinate registration and follow up with activists.  

Bill of Rights Day 2009:
·  Assist with various event-planning duties;

·  Recruit and assist in managing volunteers at the annual Bill of Rights Day Celebration on December 13.


General Department Support:
· Plan events and workshops;
· Assist with legislative campaigns;
· Assist in issue campaign research and implementation;
· Coordinate Organizing Volunteers;
· Help build the ACLU-NC activist base; and
· Other duties as needed.


General Administrative Duties:
· Organize mass mailings;
· Photocopy distribution materials;
· Create flyers;
· Maintain databases;
· Provide technical support to ACLU-NC chapters; and
· Other administrative duties as needed.


This position requires a minimum commitment of two days per week (15-20 weekly hours), including several evenings each month.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Political Science, Public Policy, and other social science-related majors encouraged;
·  Strong interpersonal skills; and
·  Experience in community organizing, volunteer coordination, grassroots organizations, or lobbying preferred.
