Overview:
The ACLU of Northern California (ACLU-NC) is looking for an energetic, creative, detail-oriented, and experienced individual to join our Communications team for a Summer tenure that will be fun, challenging, and rewarding.
The Social Media Intern will primarily assist in the creation of rich content for the Web on issues ranging from ending the death penalty to reproductive rights to marriage equality. The intern will play an integral part in boosting the ACLU-NC's social media presence, including working with Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and other emerging technologies.
About the internship
The Social Media Intern will assist with:
Creative development and execution of multimedia content;
Helping to maintain our website: www.aclunc.org;
Helping to promote our online presence on various social media platforms; and
Pitching in at a moment's notice as needed
Qualifications include:
Must have some experience and interest in Web 2.0, social media and the blogosphere;
A passion for civil rights and civil liberties;
Independent, outgoing, and energetic (a "people" person);
Excellent oral and written communication skills;
Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite;
Basic MS Office knowledge;
Familiarity with Web Content Management Systems and/or Web development language skills including HTML and CSS a definite plus; and
Video or audio editing skills are desired, but not necessary
Time and Pay/Credit:
We ask for a minimum commitment of 12 weeks, with a minimum of 20 hours per week. This is an unpaid position. Students may seek independent funding or school credit through their college or university. Candidates who are not students and who aim to build careers in multimedia will put an array of skills to work in a short time, using engaging content. A typical week includes 20-25 hours in the office during hours between 9am and 5pm. A flexible schedule is workable as long as we can count on you!

The new media work or writing sample should be an example of content you've created: YouTube video, blog post, e-alert, web campaign, article for school paper, or a paper done for coursework. (Sample should be small or moderate in size - under the equivalent of three pages.)
