Volunteers at the ACLU-NC

Volunteering at the ACLU is a great way to get involved with our campaigns to protect civil liberties, and we welcome both new and experienced volunteers. There are several ways to get involved.

VOLUNTEERING IN YOUR COMMUNITY

The ACLU has chapters all over Northern California made up of dedicated volunteers and activists who work to promote civil rights through events, community meetings, and advocacy campaigns.

Find out if there is an ACLU chapter in your area.

VOLUNTEERING AT THE ACLU-NC OFFICE

Volunteering at the ACLU office is a great way to learn more about our priority campaigns and enable us to effectively carry out our mission.  Numerous ACLU departments welcome volunteers.

ORGANIZING DEPARTMENT

Help raise awareness and mobilize support for ACLU campaigns by joining us for regular phone banks, participating in community meetings, assisting with mailings, and more.  Click here for our volunteer application!
You can also join us for our Monthly Volunteer Activist Nights, held in our office on the following Thursdays in 2008: Feb. 28, March 27, April 24, May 22, June 26, July 24, Aug. 28, Sept. 25, Oct. 23, and Nov. 20. Visit our events page for more information.

LEGAL DEPARTMENT

The Legal Department seeks civil liberties counselors to staff the ACLU -NC complaint lines (open from 10am-3pm, Monday-Friday) with another counselor. Callers use this line to report potential civil liberties and civil rights violations. Due to the training involved, this position requires a commitment to volunteer one day a week for at least six months.  For more information about becoming a complaint counselor, please click here.

You can also help the legal department respond to letters from the public about civil liberties violations, including letters from prisoners.   Volunteers choose and send the appropriate letter along with additional referrals or reference materials requested. Click here for our volunteer application!

DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT

As an activist organization, the ACLU-NC generates a significant amount of mail in the process of keeping in touch with our membership.  Mailings include Action Alerts, the ACLU News, and campaign solicitations, among others, ranging in size from 300 to 1,500 pieces. Click here for our volunteer application!

Other periodic opportunities also exist, so check this Web site often.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the ACLU!
