Chapters and other civil liberties activists have many opportunities for direct advocacy campaigns, from ACLU national efforts to affect federal legislation to ACLU of Northern California (ACLU-NC) campaigns on ballot initiatives and pending state legislation.

On many campaigns, most of the strategy and tactics will already be in place. However, on occasion, local civil liberties issues will arise, and ACLU-NC chapters and members of the community will be the primary force behind an important and timely advocacy campaign.

The first step should always be to prepare a campaign plan. The information below will help you develop an effective, clear, achievable, and ultimately successful blueprint for your campaign.
