Campus Organizing

Student activism has played a key role in shaping civil rights throughout state and national history. One of the best ways college students can work to protect their rights and the rights of their community is through the ACLU's Campus Programs.

ACLU Campus Clubs

ACLU campus clubs are integral to the ACLU's mission to protect and expand civil liberties. Campus groups play many important roles:

  • Influencing and educating fellow students
  • Impacting campus policy
  • Raising awareness of campus-related civil rights issues
  • Promoting ACLU campaigns

As an ACLU campus group you benefit from the experience and resources of the national ACLU, the ACLU of Northern California (ACLU-NC), local ACLU-NC chapters, and other campus groups as you work to protect the civil liberties of not just America's youth but all Americans.

Join a club at your campus or contact us to start a club. The Activist Toolkit can help you get started.

ACLU Campus Network

The ACLU honors the many roles that college students play as activists, workers and students. Since the ACLU often collaborates with other student organizations on campaigns and public education, we invite student leaders of non-ACLU student activist organizations to learn more about the ACLU by signing up for the Campus Network. Campus Network organizations learn more about the ACLU through:

  • Quarterly activist training institutes
  • ACLU Know Your Rights trainings
  • Advocacy and campaigns of mutual interest to your organization and ACLU
  • Utilizing ACLU tools and resources to address issues of community concern

Campus Network members are kept informed of ACLU issue advocacy, programs, events and other opportunities for engagement through a biweekly newsletter.

Contact us to learn how your campus organization can sign up for the Campus Network.

Students are a dynamic constituency who have been an important force for social change throughout history. You are a vital force to the ACLU. Join us!

"During my tenure at the ACLU, I got to work with young people who may not have heard about the ACLU previously, but once they understood what we were all about, they were so motivated to fight for their own rights and for the rights of others."
Nancy Otto, ACLU-NC Activist
