Party Like It’s 1986!

In 1986 The Bangles were all the rage, Donkey Kong was a hot video game, mobile phones were bigger than your head, and the World Wide Web didn’t even exist. A lot has changed since then - but not electronic privacy law. Come party with the ACLU of Nevada and the Demand your dotRights campaign in your finest 80s attire and learn more about what has changed, what hasn't, and what you can do about it. Free appetizers, cash bar, 80's music from DJ Miss Citrus, and prizes for the best 80's outfits!

Thursday, July 29th, 5-8PM

Bar + Bistro at The Arts Factory

107 E. Charleston, Suite 155, Las Vegas

$10 suggested donation at the door, all of which will benefit the ACLU of Nevada Foundation.

Hacking Facebook Privacy

Friday 7/30, 4pm, DEFCON

What can hackers do to protect the privacy of the 500 million Facebook users? Chris Conley of the ACLU of Northern California will walk through a few existing projects that apply software skills to the privacy challenges that Facebook presents, from working within the system using Facebook's Platform API to adding a layer to the system with browser extensions to presenting a robust open-source alternative to the whole Facebook platform. He'll discuss how these different tools fit into various strategies to alter or replace Facebook's existing privacy regime and what other approaches might be successful in protecting privacy on Facebook and other user networks.

Big Brother on the Big Screen: Fact or Fiction?

Friday 7/30, 8pm, DEFCON

Can the NSA really do that? Join ACLU-NC’s Nicole Ozer and EFF’s Kevin Bankston at the movies and to take a close look at how government surveillance has caught up with the fables dreamed up for Hollywood flicks—from old favorites like Brazil to newer additions like Bourne and Dark Knight. Jaunty tin foil hats and popcorn will be provided!
