The ACLU is launching its second advertising campaign targeting Spanish-language radio in Fresno, Modesto, San Jose, and Santa Rosa in efforts to promote its Spanish Hotline - 1-877-PARALOS (1-877-727-2567) for drivers who feel they have been stopped by the police because of their race. At the press conference held November 15, 2000, the ACLU-NC Racial Justice Project Director was joined by MALDEF, and La Raza Centro Legal - along with victims of racial profiling - in an effort to get the word out to the Latino community. The ACLU has also launched a campaign with a Spanish-language TV ad that is being distributed nationally. The radio and TV ads will be aired at the news conference. The Spanish radio ads were created by Headquarters Advertising in San Francisco. The television PSA was created by the Kinocraft, based in Philadelphia. The English language hotline is 1-877-DWB-STOP. More than 2,300 people have called the hotline to report their experiences of racial profiling.

Press conference participants included:

Maria Blanco, Executive Director of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund

Renee Saucedo, Attorney with La Raza Centro Legal

Michelle Alexander, Director of the Racial Justice Project of the ACLU of Northern California
