A diverse group of Los Altos residents will speak at City Hall, requesting the Council reverse its rule against considering proclamations based on sexual orientation. The speakers and their supporters will be wearing red "Proclaim Equality" T-shirts. They will say that the rule is discriminatory and an embarrassment to their city in the heart of Silicon Valley and the Bay Area. They will also say that the students in the Los Altos High School Gay/Straight Alliance - who were denied a proclamation - are worthy of such an honor for their courageous work in trying to make Los Altos a tolerant and accepting community. WHO: Straight parents and business owners; members of the Los Altos High School Gay/Straight Alliance; a longtime resident who was in a 20-year relationship with her late partner; many supporters - gay and straight - wearing "Proclaim Equality" T-shirts.
