- In 2009, less than 60% of middle and high school students
reported feeling safe at school.
- In 2009, 33% of 7th graders experienced hate-crime motivated
harassment or bullying at least once.
- In 2010, 42% of students who identify as lesbian, gay
or bisexual (LGB) and 62% who identify as transgender
report being harassed at least once based on gender non-conformity.
- For 2006 to 2007, English language learners comprised
only 15% of the student population, but they accounted
for 30% of the dropout rate.
- In terms of race and ethnicity, Blacks, Hispanics and
Native Americans have the highest dropout rates, and black
male dropouts experience a 60% probability of incarceration.

population graduated on time.

- In 2006, the suspension rate of Black elementary and
secondary students was over double the rate of suspensions

population, they accounted for 19% of suspensions.
