Arts Justice

Arts access is a civil right in California. Under the Education Code, students must have access to all of the arts. Research demonstrates that access to arts increases students’ academic outcomes, improves engagement in school, and reduces dropout rates. However, nearly 9 out of 10 schools are violating students’ rights by failing to provide full access to the arts, which include providing courses in visual art, music, arts media and entertainment, dance, and theater. California is also significantly behind other states when it comes to providing arts education.
