Join Dispatches from the War Zone author, Mike Rhodes, in a discussion of his important new book on advocating for the rights of people experiencing homelessness in Fresno, California. He was a key organizer who contributed to the 2006 Kincaid v. City of Fresno class action lawsuit, which resulted in a $2.3 million settlement forcing the city to stop bulldozing homeless encampments.

Mike challenges the mainstream narrative about homeless people and provides insights into the ways we can all work together to stop criminalizing poor people in our communities.

Mike will be joined by local activists, current ACLU of Northern California Organizer Tessa D’Arcangelew, and former ACLU of Northern California Organizer Pam Whalen, who worked with activists in Tulare to successfully shift the way the city treated homeless residents. The discussions will be followed by community dialogue about the specific issues each city is facing with regards to homelessness. Attendees will join in conversation and learn about opportunities to get involved.
