Davis: California Death Penalty Ballot Measures

death penalty on the ballot

Join the ACLU in Davis to talk about what voters should know about Prop. 62 and Prop. 66, two conflicting death penalty ballot measures on November's ballot.

Prop. 62 will repeal California’s death penalty and replace it with life in prison without a possibility of parole. Prop. 62 (Replace the Costly, Failed Death Penalty System) is sponsored by Taxpayers for Sentencing Reform.

Prop. 66 is a complex and costly experiment with California’s death penalty procedures that would increase California’s risk of executing an innocent person. Prop. 66 (Death Penalty, Procedures, Initiative Statute) is funded by conservative law enforcement interests.

ACLU insider Nancy Pemberton, who has served both as an investigator and a lawyer on multiple capitol murder defense teams throughout the country, will present an in-depth explanation of these two initiatives. Nancy Pemberton serves on the Board of Directors of the ACLU of Northern California.
