Pass on the knowledge! #CAHealthyYouth

At a time of national reckoning over sexual harassment and assault and an increase in bias incidents against LGBTQ people, it’s more important than ever that young people receive sex education that teaches them about healthy relationships, consent, gender diversity, sexual orientation, and their reproductive rights.

The good news is that the California Healthy Youth Act—the nation’s strongest sexual health education law—requires that California public schools teach all this and more. But to make the promise of this law a reality in classrooms throughout California, parents and community members need to become advocates.

“Be the Change: Advocacy Toolkit for Ensuring Your Local Schools Provide Comprehensive Sexual Health Education” provides a quick and easy overview of actions you can take in your local school district to ensure students are taught sexual health and HIV prevention education that meets the law. This toolkit was created by the ACLU Foundations of California and Bay Area Communities for Health Education (BACHE).
