Protect Essential Workers, Expand Access to Paid Leave (AB 3216)
AB 3216 addresses the urgent need to enable California to recover from COVID-19, prevent recurring outbreaks, and move toward economic recovery by allowing workers to care for themselves and their families. What does AB 3216 do?
- Provides 10 days of emergency paid sick leave to all California workers during a state of emergency;
- Expands job-protected family and pregnancy leave to all employees during a state of emergency, regardless of employer size;
- Provides for an additional 12 weeks of job-protected emergency leave, for a total of 24 weeks, to care for your own serious health condition, a family member’s serious health condition, or care for a family member when a school or care facilities has been closed; and
- Provides a right of recall and retention for workers who have been laid off in the heavily COVID-impacted industries of hotels, airport hospitality, event centers and building services.
